GEARING ROLES Final Conference

“The journey towards institutional change: transforming gender roles in the academia”

The GEARING-Roles consortium, alongside EU sister projects, researchers, policy makers, other stakeholders and friends, gathered on 18th October 2022 in Brussels to celebrate the final conference of GEARING-Roles.

Surrounded by dinosaurs at the Museum of Natural Sciences, it was time for the project to showcase all the work and progress we have made throughout these four years. The conference was a great opportunity to reflect on all the achievements as well as on the ways forward following the completion of the GEARING-Roles project.

After the opening of the conference by the project coordinator, María Silvestre, we had the honour of listening to two amazing keynote speakers, Roman Kuhar and Victoria Showunmi. In attendance, there was also Athanasia Moungou from the European Commission. The conference followed with a panel of GEARING-Roles partners who reflected on the work done in their institutions to transform gender roles.

After the coffee break, a roundtable offered a great opportunity for discussion and debate on institutional change and sustainability, with the experts Marcela Linková, Maria Sangiuliano, Marina Cacace, María Bustelo and Maxime Forest. Following on from this, the winners of the Resistances competition were announced, and the GEARING-Roles Handbook for Creating a Gender-Sensitive Curriculum was presented. Finally, we could not think of a better way to end the conference than with humour and lots of food for thought, with María López Belloso.
